Wondering if any of you caught this article on SundayTimes (29th Jan) in the "gen y" section. It's a review about a music album, "I Wish We All Could Win" by The Afters.
What's the big deal? Well apparently this is a christian album, & it's on the SundayTimes!
Here's the review....
Music lovers, this optimistic rock quatet from Texas is set to rock your stereo. In this era dominated by hip-hop and angsty rock music, The Afters provide listeners with uplifting lyrics and captivating tunes that anyone can relate to.Well...that's the review from a TJ student. Check out the lyrics of the songs if you want.
From feel-good rock numbers to sweeping, melodic ballads, this album can definitely make you feel better when you're down, and take you higher when you're feeling great.
Their first single, Beautiful Love, is a catchy and heartwarming song written by lead singer Josh Havens about all the wonderful things that love can give. The wonderful combination of guitar, piano, drums and Josh's voice leaves one feeling more encouraged and hopeful. This song is like a love anthem that speads the message of how love can change many things around us.
Someday is a thunderous rock track about failure and unfulfilled dreams but also reminds us that we must continue to try harder because "someday, your time will come".
Other songs in this album send out positive and thankful messages. Go get it!

We don't know if the reviewer is a christian, since the review was from a neutral perspective, mainly focusing on the aspect of "positiveness" the album brings forth. If she's a christian, I guess that's a way to introduce an album without being too pushy or turning people off. If she's not, I guess that's what she came away with after listening to it.
Well, some of the songs have the word God and Jesus in it, together with worshipful phrases, while some are more reflective about life's experience, mentioning a greater Someone whom we can turn to for hope, though not blatantly saying who.
Some may find it a compromise being made to enter into the secular media field, but I think it can also be a good way as a stepping stone for our non-christian friends to be introduced to the belief we hold. Guess there's always been a hunger for words, lyrics & songs that expresses the deep aching and longings of someone who's worn out trying to run the rat race.
