Maybe it was the heart melting experience of hearing the Superman theme song once again after a period of so many years. Maybe it was my first time watching a Superman movie on the big screen. Maybe it was the familiar nostalgic ending the movie followed, from the past movies. But everything just came together nicely.
Hearing the theme song and watching the planets and galaxy zip by in the opening sequence made me feel like a little boy once again! (I almost teared...awww... =D)
Brandon Routh is THE new superman. His resemblance to Christopher Reeve at certain angles is almost eerie at times. He really brought out the humane side of Superman, with eyes that tell of the pain of rejection from the world. Kevin Spacey gives the villian Lex Luthor a new level of brutalness and danger, sparing his words for the comical moments, while getting straight to business when it comes to dealing with Superman.
The visual effects is superb and cool, but takes a secondary place to character revolvement, which is good! Alot of teens familiar with action-in-your-face movies such as spiderman and xmen may not really like it, and even find it abit corny at times. It is not about the whiz-bams and action power

For me? It's a real blast.

"How could you leave us like that?
I moved on. So did the rest of us.
That's why I wrote it.
The world doesn't need a savior. And neither do I."- Lois Lane

But one thing for sure...it confounded even Superman, the Man of Steel.
After giving his life to safeguard the world from evil, 5 years is apparently too much for the world to give. Coming back from a 5 year search of his home planet Krypton, the world seemed to have moved on, learning to cope with a world without Superman, especially Lois Lane. The one woman whom Superman gave his life and all to love and protect, managed to convince the world and herself, that they don't need a savior.
"You will be different. Sometimes you will feel like an outcast,
but you will never be alone."- Jor-El to son, Kal-El(Superman)

Watch him struggle and tear as he struggles to accept the reality of the statement from his father, "Even though you've been raised as a human being, you're not one of them.".
Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Able to do almost anything and unstoppable, yet he struggles to find acceptance.

No one really considers him potentially as being Superman, and those who does, usually dismisses him due to his unpopular, soft spoken and clumsy character. But it does highlight a question to me.
Have we also dismissed and cared less about people who aren't popular, easily-liked and all?
Nah it can't be his doing. She's not capable enough to handle this. What a dork. This guy is embarrasing me. She's so irritating and slow...
...no wonder there are lonely people out there. People with no super-powered alter-egos to amaze the world with. People who go through life living in rejection because they don't fit the norm...though I wonder...who decides what's the norm anyway.

Reminds me of another person who chose death and rejection, for the greater good.
Makes me wonder, which is more painful...not having the strength to change things and being driven by circumstances, or having the ability to change things, but choosing not to. One takes acceptance in weakness, other takes true strength in humilty.
The saviour returns to turn hardened hearts to acknowledge their weakness and need. With a gentlemanly chivalrous heart, he amazes not only with his prowess, but with the reminder that there's goodness that can right the wrongs of this world.
But the world can't really offer anything much in return, can they?
What then?
"You will travel far, my little Kal-El. But we will never leave you... even in the face of our deaths... the richness of our lives shall be yours. All that I have, all that I've learned, everything I feel... all this, and more... I bequeath you, my son.
You will carry me inside you all the days of your life. You will make my strength your own, and see my life through your own eyes, as your life will be seen through mine. The son becomes the father, and the father the son...
...Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and your power are needed. Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son."- Jor-El's final words
to son, Kal-El(Superman)
Somebody save me
Let your waters break right through
Somebody save me
I don't care how you do it
Just save, save
Come on
I've been waiting for youSave Me
(Smallville Theme Song)

For someone so strong, yet so vulnerable to the people he seeks to protect and save, I'd believe those words are the pushing force for a purposeful heart, one that lays his life and all down, with nothing promised in return.
It certainly does remind me once again of Someone who gave, before our crying out, of His on will.
It certainly does remind me once again of Someone who gave, before our crying out, of His on will.
"You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior,
but every day I hear people crying for one."- Superman
