Keyboards typing away, phones ringing, printers coughing out sheets of papers....in the midst of a normal, quiet office environment...there's something cooking.
Boiling...infact.
Just a cubicle behind me, I could hear short intersperses of prayer being muttered in between the christian songs playing from the speakers. These and the doctor's medication are my colleague's daily dosage in his daily battle against mounting pressures and depression.
In another cubicle along the 'lorong' next to mine...sits a kind, cheerful Indonesian colleague I've gotten to know lately. His friendly, smiley gestures break my heart, as I hear of news from a colleague in a meeting, about a possible impending termination of his work. Reason? To cut down head count and expenses....and the "outstanding" target since he's still new on his 3-month probation contract period. To tell or not to....both are equally hard.
Can't someone redefine the corporate ladder and just widen its singular space abit more? Honestly....what's wrong with this world?
Well....we're gonna have a company fire drill exercise this friday. Hopefully, we all find ourselves prepared for the route of escape to safety and refuge, when any of these boiling pressure points within the cold, air-conditioned office...explodes.
